This site is woefully out of date! In January 2009, I left UMass to take a position in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Along with my colleagues Bill Gerace and Bill Leonard, I’ll be working to build an interdisciplinary program in science education research, teaching, and outreach. Life has been busy, but I’ll be updating this site when I can make a little time…
I’m a researcher who studies cognition, learning, teaching, and how technology can support these. I’m also an evangelist for effective, innovative, research-based instruction, and at times a teacher of teachers (“teacher professional development”). My educational degrees were in physics and my “discipline” is physics education research, but my interest and attention encompasses the sciences, mathematics, and other technical fields as well.
I want this web site to be a comprehensive, integrated professional and personal online portfolio and a resource for others. To that end, I will be adding more content, and upgrading the organization as I go. At present, there’s not much here, but you might find the following links useful.
